Living, loving, and enjoying life...
I have been so excited to write and fill you all in on my adventures in LA, however I have had an appearance every day since I returned. Finally, I have found a bit of time to catch my breath and also catch you up on my adventures of the past several weeks.
Words cannot express how much fun I had in LA filming the reality show. Unfortunately, since I am under contract and a code of silence, I cannot reveal all I would like about my days there except to say how wonderful it was to connect with all the contestants again and to inform you that this reality show is must see TV! There are many wonderful young women competing this year, and since I am now familiar with them and know them all, competing will actually be fun and exciting. The Ellen Show appearance was a BLAST! We are looney for George Clooney walking in a circle, clapping hands, crowns and sashes…unfortunately we never got to see him; however we did all get to meet Mario Lopez which was nice! That is about all I can say about my stay, so please support the Miss America Organization and tune in to TLC beginning the first Friday night in January. I promise you will enjoy each and every show. This was an experience of a lifetime and one I will never forget!
As I mentioned, since landing in RDU, I immediately hit the ground running with Miss NC and my platform appearances. The Catfish Classic Golf Tournament on October 13th was a great success. Over $70,000 dollars were raised for the local Jim Catfish Hunter Chapter of the ALS Association. Thanks to everyone who helped make this fundraiser a success. We all had so much fun doing something so rewarding for such a great cause!
A fabulous time was had by all at the princess party for Ella Newmiller, whom I have been in contact with since we met before the Miss NC pageant. She looked bright eyed and beautiful, although she is facing an inoperable brain tumor. Brianna Hester and I crowned her the 2008 Dream Angel at the party. It was a great night sponsored by Chick-fil-a and included food, limousine rides, fire trucks, the NCSU clogging team, and much more. The gift of a smile was truly invaluable as I watched Ella grin ear to ear! Each day I spend as Miss NC, I seem to get so much more back than I give. I am so humbled and grateful. Thanks to Brianna for allowing me the honor of helping Princess Ella become a queen.
One of the most important jobs as Miss NC is to join many state dignitaries in cutting the ribbon as apart of the opening ceremonies for the North Carolina State Fair. What an honor this was for me as I have yet to miss a year at the fair. After all, who does not love the NC State Fair! I am so glad they did not ask me to kiss a pig. I have heard other Miss NCs have done this.
Along with the exciting task of emceeing the fashion show during the Women in Business Conference in Fayetteville, I had the opportunity of meeting with Mrs. Patty Petty, wife of Richard Petty. She is the co-founder of the Victory Junction camp for kids with chronic and terminal illnesses. We spoke about Miss Americas affiliation with the Childrens Miracle Network and learned that we had a lot in common. What an honor it was to spend a bit of time with such a remarkable woman.
I am really looking forward to this Saturday evening as I give another young woman the honor of being crowned the 50th Anniversary Miss Garner. She will have the opportunity to work with a fabulous and supportive committee. Please make plans to come this year. It promises to be quite the event. We will be honoring all former Miss Garners, some of which will be performing. It will be an evening of celebration and reminiscing. I am honored to be among the 48 fabulous women who have preceded me on such a wonderful journey. I am blessed to have had the guidance of this committee which led me to where I am today. Thank you Harold, Mary Catherine, Jodi, Miss Brenda, Mary Lou, Delois and Dana, Kasey, Lisa, Brad, Nicole and all of the crew for all your love and support.
You can keep up with all of my adventures on the MissNC.org web site. It is so hard to believe that I leave for Las Vegas in twelve weeks. I cannot wait!!
As for now North Carolina, I leave you with this message which has become my mantra each and every day.
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.
